June's DIY Projects

I have kind of a thing for Mason Jars. I use them for vases, salads on the go and tall ice tea cups in the summer. The older jars can be trickier and more expensive to find but you can also find them for as low as 25 cents a piece at good will.  Turning down a good Mason jar is a hard task considering you can fill them with so many goodies as gifts.

Our crowned jewel of Mason Jars today though is this beautiful soap dispenser.

You can find a beautiful tutorial on how to make your at theblissfullycontentlife blog.
Another great tutorial that requires a little extra effort is here at Heather Bullard

Another great DIY with lots of pictures to guide you on your quest to up-cycle your items is <<HERE>>. It is this fabulous old school desk.

As always if you want one but don't have the time to make it feel free to call the store at (262) 620-4347 and talk to us about making one for you!

Have a great weekend!

Happy Wednesday!

Good Morning! Today is a beautiful day to come down and visit us at the store! Here's some of the new things we have!
A cute little birdhouse made out of recycled parts.
Adorable foyer table or porch drink table
Bookends! Perfect for all that summer reading we talked about yesterday!
Sweet candelabra! This would be adorable in a nursery or little girls room
This is an old desk with burlap drawer pulls. In the background is our unique metal peace sign. We have a special metal artist that hand makes these exclusively for A Piece of Mine!

Lovely silver platter with flowers from Mabert's Nursery.
Iron lighting
Jars! Fill them with anything you can think of. Kids and grandkids especially love them filled with candy for a special treat!

With the 4th of July right around the corner these are perfect additions to any home.
We have lots of cute knick knacks to fill your shelves!
This is an old sewing table turned buffet.
Old sewing boxes. Wondering what to do with them click HERE to find some great ideas. Check out our Facebook Note HERE for more ideas too!
And spools and buttons to round out the sewing ensemble.
Last but not least a beautiful old trunk. This makes a great coffee table that would double as a blanket chest or toy box!

A gorgeous day for....

I hope everyone had a fabulous holiday weekend! Today is a beautiful day to sit back, relax and read a book. A few days ago we talked about how to reuse pallets as...well, whatever you need! I think with this weather a pallet would make a perfect porch swing!

Like this one!
I've been shopping around for patio furniture recently and it can be very expensive! I love the idea of a whole patio set made out of recycled pallets. It may take a little time to work on but who wouldn't want to spend time outside in weather like this! A little paint and adorable pillows and you have your very own customized, gorgeous patio furniture!

And just in case you need a way to store all those summer reading books we've got just thing down at the store! Check out the claw foot bathtub feet turned bookends!
So cute!!

Whatever you choose to do on this beautiful day have fun and don't forget your sunscreen!

Drop us a note below to let us know how you spent your Memorial Day weekend! We would love to hear about your family's traditions.

Special Sunday Post

Good Morning! Just wanted to drop everyone a note to have a great Sunday! What do you spend your time doing on Sundays? Take some time to sleep in, make a special breakfast, go to breakfast with your grandkids or maybe you sip your coffee and read that special book you've been meaning to get to. Whatever you do, enjoy a break, stop and smell the roses! Life is too short to busy all the time.

Memorial Day 2012

With Memorial Day just a few days a way I wanted to dedicate this post today to all the men and women who have served or are currently serving our country. It is because of these freedom fighters I even have the freedom to write a blog. From the bottom of our hearts we say thank you.

A thank you is also due to the brave families who send off their men and women. I can't imagine the courage it takes to have a loved one in the service. Thank you for the sacrifice you give to allow this country it's freedom.

If you want to help support our troops by sending them a care package full of goodies from home but not sure how check out this website http://www.anysoldier.com/ for ideas. This site will guide you on ideas of what to send, how to send a care package and any other questions you may have.

May we all spend this weekend remembering those that have given up so much for people they don't even know to have the freedom to be and do whatever we please.

Summertime

Summer always had a magical feel growing up. It was a time of freedom. Freedom from schedules, freedom from homework, freedom from routine. Now that school is out have you thought about how you're going to keep the kids busy for 3 months? Even if you don't have kids in school summer is still a great time for people with or without kids, young and old and everyone in between to make memories. It's a chance to get out of the house and have some fun. Here's some ideas to get your summer started right!

  • Go for a walk and take some pictures.
  • Window shop in your local downtown area.
  • Make something! Sand and paint an old cabinet, paint a mural outside, go on a nature walk and make a collage.
  • Make a lemonade stand with your children or grandchildren. It's a great way to teach them responsibility and how to be money savvy!
  • Have a garage sale and make some extra shopping cash!
  • Have a bonfire and make s'mores.

Click HERE for some other great summer crafts and party ideas!

One of the most classic summer ideas is to have a picnic. Here's some favorite recipes for an easy picnic:

And of course if you have a picnic you need an amazing picnic basket. We have just what you need at the store....
A beautiful vintage picnic basket!

However you decide to spend your summer just be sure to make lots of memories!

Pillows

Good Morning Kenosha! We are getting ready to open the store as we speak but I wanted to share with you quickly this morning! A great way to quickly give your home a fresh look is to simply swap out or add some pillows. Add them to a bench, a sofa, a love seat or your favorite chair! Google living rooms and I think you would be hard pressed to find a room without pillows! So check out these ideas:

Classic, clean, crisp beauty!

Vintage postcard pillows
French boudoir inspired
Banker's Bag turned pillow. We do have some of these in the store but this one exactly.
However, we do have these very ones in the store now!
and these!

So if you need a change and are on budget throw some new pillows on the couch light a candle and have a relaxing day!

Pallets as furniture

Last night I was driving past my neighbors house and found these beauties!
They are in really great condition. So here's my thoughts about what to do with them:
Love the hooks since at the moment I have no idea where my keys are! Organization is such a time and stress saver.
Love the table! This is more what I'm wanting to do with them. I need end tables in my living room so I may try to modify this idea a bit.
Tv table. I would paint it robin's egg blue, it's my favorite color!
Adorable shelving
Art
Organizer! Or swap baskets for plants and put it in the garden.
Porch swing, genius!

What would you do with them? I'll keep you posted on the future of this garbage find but in the meantime it's tempting to head down to A Piece of Mine Store and pick up one that's already made! Speaking of the store here's what's new!
 Bench with numbers
I am in love with that white bench!
